. >>> thank you for joining us. i'm mike hydeck in for jc hayward today. the man police named the east coast rapist was scheduled to plead guilty in a virginia courtroom but apparently aaron thomas had a change of his mind. so what happened? let's get right to peggy fox live in manassas. what's the deal, peg? >> reporter: well, mike, aaron thomas was expected to plead guilty to two rapes and three counts of abduction with intent to defile. those charges go back to halloween night of 2009 when three teenage girls who were out trick or treating were abducted and two of them were raped. but today in court when the judge asked aaron thomas how he pleaded for the first rape charge, here's what he said. i don't know which is right or which is wrong. i don't know what i'm doing. the commonwealth's attorney says he wasn't surprised that aaron thomas did not plead guilty because of his previous erratic behavior. >> i certainly would not want him to plead guilty if he had any question about whether he should or not. if i'm not convinced that he's willing and -- ready, willing and able t

facility that turned deadly in one case. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm shawn yancy. >> i'm brian bolter. we'll begin with police swarming a maryland college campus this afternoon. >> a student made disturbing threatening remarks at rockville montgomery campus. tonight that student? custody. fox 5's maureen umeh has the story. >> a student was upset over a breakup. he was arrested on the montgomery college campus less than an hour after witnesses reported hearing him make threats. a threat of gun violence on the montgomery college campus in rockville. witnesses said a student commented he felt like shooting people just for fun apparently upset over a recent breakup. >> the witnesses came to the security office and notified them about the statements made. >> reporter: campus security notified rockville police, the two groups swarming the school cinching for the student who made the threat -- searching for the student who made the threat. witnesses describe the scene acescence tens and threatening. >> i didn't know if he was still here because -- because police were still around.

't on land. it's also on the water. the d.c. fire department boat rescue fleet just isn't what it used to be. this is the john glenn. it is the biggest boat in that fleet. the department still uses it to patrol but given all the potential threats to homeland security, there are questions about just how effective this boat could be. that's because it's out there on the water but the communication system is broken. the radio can't transmit a distress call. also the coast guard documentation has expired. >> part of the communication system doesn't work. it appears the certification for the boat that should have been applied for back in august, the date was missed. >> reporter: so the question now whether to apply for grants to repair the boat. those repairs will cost about $700,000. the other option is to lobby capitol hill and to see if they can get some money to buy a new state of the art boat. there are a couple of options. we have to figure out and wait to see what comes of this. as you mentioned earlier, there are potential discussions of cutting the number of medics during the overnight h

general david petraeus was supposed to testify before congress thursday on the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi. he originally briefed lawmakers early on saying it was a spontaneous uprising to an anti- islam film. >> i don't see how in the world you can find out what happened in benghazi before, during and after the attack if general petraeus doesn't testify. >> reporter: there are also questions surrounding information petraeus' mistress paula broadwell may have known about the attack. last month at the university of denver she spoke about the benghazi attack. some say what she said appeared to go beyond what was in the public record at the time. >> the cia annex had actually taken a couple libyan militia members prisoner and they think that the attack on the consulate was an effort to try and get knees prisoners back. >> reporter: was -- these prisoners back. >> reporter: was prod broadwell privy to the information because the cia had said nothing about this situation and now the fbi is in the hot seat. dianne feinstein, chair of the senate intelligence committee is

. >> keep us posted. we turn to a story you will only see on 7 tonight. d.c. police are searching for a group of men. >> this group is wanted for crimes ranging from robbery to rape. jennifer is live in northeast tonight. >> this is extremely scary news. police stepping up their patrols in the targeted neighborhoods. they tell you these suspects are armed and dangerous. [no audio] there are four crimes that began right before midnight on friday. we did speak with one of the victims.
